Saturday, May 31, 2008 --- Memorial Day 2008

Mommy, Daddy and Nicholas enjoyed Memorial Day in Cousin Annette's backyard garden! Yes, some are lucky to have green spaces in New York!
You can see the many faces of Nicholas that day. Cuz' actually watched NJ so Mommy and Daddy could go see a movie that evening! She forgot to use a bib when feeding him sweet potatoes!!! To Daddy's dismay....(HaHa!)
Nicholas had so much fun he slept almost all of the next day.

Sunday, May 25, 2008 --- Street Sounds

What a day for little Nicholas and the whole Bridenstine clan! We started off with a big breakfast made by Mom, then back to bed for a power nap [even though the only thing we really did was breakfast...] After getting ourselves cleaned up, we headed out to the fine Borough of Brooklyn. We met up with the Colluras and hit Prospect Park Zoo. Unfortunately, Nicholas Collura, one month NJ's junior, was not having a good weekend and cried more than his Mom and Dad wished for. A lot more. But we all stuck it out together and hit a great Mexican restaurant in Park Slope, where we took over the whole tented back porch area and managed to have some great food and great conversation. On the way home, with homemade ice cream cones in hand, we came upon a street musician. Needless to say, Nicholas was transfixed by the accordion's unique sound, as you can see in this clip. Look at his intent stare and "What are you, strange sounding thing?" look at the jolly musician. Hey, if we can't find new joy in this world by being a part of our children's life discoveries, then there's no music in any of our lives, right? VIVA LA BROOKLYN!

Thursday, May 15, 2008 --- Trials of Life in the Big Apple!

Here's a snipet into the daily life of living in the city.

Doing laundry. Such a detestable chore, since we don't have a washer/dryer in our apartment or even in our building! And such an even MORE detestable chore to do when you have a baby(who by the way is now 20lbs!) to carry with you. So, for those of you that live in suburbia here's the picture and for your gratitude journals today! I only do laundry every two weeks. We would go LONGER if we could, but not possible now with a baby.

I was going to try to put Nicholas on my back in the pack today; but after him screaming for 5+ minutes, I switched him back to the front carrying position. I then grabbed the bag of laundry detergent, etc. and proceeded to try and figure out how I was going to get about 50+lbs of dirty clothes down 6 flights of stairs, down the block and around the corner to the laundry mat!
I did get down the stairs with the cart of about half of the laundry. I took that to the laundry mat and then had to come back for the second half. Meanwhile, in my head thinking that by the time we have the second child, my husband hopefully will be making enough money to have our laundry picked up and delivered!

After getting the laundry started, we came back to the apartment to get Nicholas' stroller, where he would be much more comfortable for the next two hours. Back to the laundry mat. Coming home after finishing up would have been a good picture to see! I was pushing Nicholas in his stroller and pulling the cart of laundry. Only to have to run Nicholas upstairs in his stroller, then come back down and take one bag of laundry upstairs. Wait, then back to the laundry mat to get the remaining bag of laundry and back up 6 flight of stairs!

Needless to say, after bathing Nicholas and putting laundry away Daddy had to get supper for himself!

Sidenote: We started Nicholas on cereal this week!!! Always exciting for new parents. :)

Monday, May 12, 2008 --- My First Mother's Day!

Happy Belated Mother's Day to all the Moms out there!
Here's my gift on Mother's Day. Even though I had a head cold and Daddy was out of town so no breakfast in bed this makes it all worth it!

About Us
The Bridenstines consist of five sentient beings of various intellect, value and potential, specifically:

Lori -- Wife and mother, taking a government-sanctioned maternity break from her personal training gig to birth, rear and guide her son as he begins his life and ends hers, a.k.a. “eating the metaphorical bon bon.”
Nicholas -- Newest addition to the family, born happy, healthy and eager to start blaming his parents for ruining his life. Predicted first word – Why?
Brummie -- Elder female feline, happy with warm belly rubs and cold bowls of milk. Tabby in coat, Tiger in heart.
Maya -- Deadly-but-delicious younger putty tat, with a soft face to melt the hardest heart and a proclivity toward urinating on Mom and Dad while they sleep.
Michael -- Husband and father, busy writing, producing and directing the next great American sitcom, if at least in his head. Loves to multi-task while on the phone, often by dusting while yapping.
